Johan Muyle's exhibition Fortunately thoughts are silent opened at Electro Studios Project Space (ESPS) on Friday 3 October 2014. It runs until 26 October and is open Saturday & Sunday from 12.00-17.00 & by appointment.

Johan Muyle is a Belgian artist with an international career who lives & works in Liège & Bruxelles. His work is characterised by dialogue & unique interconnections. Whether in the form of motorised assemblages or large scale installations, visual & formal paradoxes are the stimulus for a critical reading of culture & society. Muyle's work engages the viewer in an analytical evaluation of their cultural assumptions, which have become highly destabilised in an era of image overload & globalisation.

Fortunately thoughts are silent features motorised sculptures, drawing & photographs, some of which document his recent intervention at St Benedict in St Leonards.

'Dan Bass: Work' opens at The SPACE, St Johns Road & The Kiosk, Bottle Alley, St Leonards lower promenade on Friday 26 September and continues until 2 November 2014. The launch event is at The SPACE on the 26th from 18.30-20.00.

Dan Bass lives & works in Margate, his practice covers photography, film, painting & installations. This new project is informed by his research in Hastings & St Leonards where he learned that the well-known author Robert Noonan had been a resident of the town who adopted the pen name of Robert Tressell (Trestle). This choice of name can be seen as a direct reference to the author's working life as a painter & director and sign writer.

Bass will install several sculptures made from trestle legs in The SPACE, these will incorporate photographic images which relate to his practice as both an artist and a technician. Other images will be installed at The Kiosk where the viewer has the opportunity to see the work in detail.

'Dan Bass: Work' is a PhotoHastings project and is supported by The Hastings and St Leonards Foreshore Charitable Trust & Community First through the Community Development Foundation

Coding Driftwood, an installation by Rotterdam artist Maurice Meewisse opened at The SPACE on 25 July & will remain on site until mid September. During July, Meewisse collected driftwood from the beach in Hastings, St Leonards, Little Galley Hill & Cooden Beach as well as using sections of groynes from the Environment Agency. With a set of self-made branding irons in the shape of letters, Meewisse marked each piece of wood with data on it's source, possible type & origin.
Aiming to de-romanticise driftwood, Meewisse's intervention addresses methodology, classification & discipline.
